Hong Kong
2009
Anthony Ng Architects
The air-conditioned link across the expressway Kowloonside, Hong Kong, was moved four hundred metres down the expressway from a fabrication yard to its final location. It was then assembled alongside the carriageway and lifted into position in one night. The bridge is conceived as a principle boom element fabricated from plate steel which forms the roof to the glazed enclosure suspended below.
The floor deck is made as lightweight and slender as possible and checked to avoid excessive dynamic response. A rudimentary trussing system, scaled to register from the road, stiffens and minimises overall weight.
