An urban motorway carried across the river on a cable-stayed structure of 330 metres span.
“The competition-winning scheme of 2009 has two pylons. The sweep of the city ring-road passing through them produces a parallax between the monumental elements. An example of this cinematographic effect is found in the almost continual camera movement of the film La La Land. Dolly cameras make the audience participate in the dance. Crane shots link individual movements up through group choreography to the huge sweep of highway ramps. From human to civil-engineering scale.” Pure J.G. Ballard
The design team led by Techniker with Roughan and O’Donovan have worked to the limit of contemporary analysis packages, wind engineering and manufacturing capabilities.
Every ounce of steel and concrete has been exploited in the structure using the provisions of the new Eurocode.
