As part of a study of new education methods a prototype standard classroom has been realised on two sites. The teaching spaces are naturally lit and ventilated with full provision for computerised teaching and display equipment.
A moulded shell of glass reinforced plastic is set on a steel grillage floor plate. Glazed roof hatches operated by automatic controls let in daylight and allow out stale air. The semi-monocoque assembly is supported on adjustable jacks on shallow pads. Differential settlements can be compensated for and construction reversed without damage to the ground plane.
One end of the building is completed by a full height glazed screen which can be folded back to open the space onto a raised terrace. The door is framed by a stiffened reveal of plastic material.
