The Drop House

This detached house on a greenfield site beyond London’s suburbs is carefully arranged to exploit topology and views. The structure is a layer-cake of materials. A reinforced concrete basement supports a steel frame on which a superstructure of timber framing incorporates various architectural devices. Shrinkable clay soil conditions and the removal of several mature trees led inevitably to piled foundations.
