Almere Windhinders, Phase 1
The new-town of Almere outside Amsterdam is a windy place. Shields to create calm spaces have been developed from wind-tunnel studies by Dunnett Craven Architects and engineered by Techniker Ltd. Several elements need to be integrated into the cityscape. The interventions are treated as well-detailed furniture and designed to be unobtrusive and easily maintained. Extensive computer analysis and wind simulation has been used to attenuate the canopy components as much as possible. The forms are self-contained to reduce the apparent impact on surroundings.
